Friendship Bean Soup & Mix Give a bag of mixed beans or a jar layered with beans along with the soup recipe following the Mix recipe. The different color of beans make this a very colorful gift, fitting nicely into a soup toureen or small soup crock. Ingredients Equal parts of: Green Split Peas Pinto Beans Anazasi Beans Navy Beans Great Northern Beans Black Turtle Beans\Lentils Yellow Split Peas Black-eye Peas Lima Beans Chickpeas Kidney Beans Red Beans Directions 1.Measure 2 cups of raw beans & rinse well. Cover with water and bring to a boil. Boil for 1 minute. 2.Cover with lid and let sit for 1 hour. Drain beans, add fresh water and cook until tender, 2-3 hours. 3.Use the following Friendship Bean Soup Recipe below to finish preparing the soup. Yield: 2 cups raw makes 4 cups cooked beans. When using the recipe, don't leave out the molasses, it is the secret ingredient to a most wonderful flavor! 2 cups dry bean soup mix, cooked till tender 2 cups tomatoes, peeled and chopped 2 Tbsp molasses 1/2 cup each: onion, celery and carrot, chopped 1 garlic clove (or to taste), minced 1 Tbsp parsley flakes 1 tsp chives 1 tsp red pepper or chili powder Directions 1.Add all ingredients together and simmer until tender. Serve piping hot!
